Mary Ann Knauss 1772-1831

Anna Maria5 (Mary Ann), b. 20 OCT 1772, at Lehigh Co., PA.  Her mother was Elizabeth Ritter born 6 JUL 1753 at Northampton Co., PA.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Casper and Anna Maria Ritter.  Casper Ritter was also a Revolutionary War patriot.

Casper Ritter abt 1724 - 1792

Casper Ritter migrated to America with his three brothers when under sixteen years of age.  He arrived in Philadelphia on the ship "Pennsylvania" 11 SEP 1732, having sailed from Rotterdam, Holland.

Casper was a constable for the Bethlehem township and a member of the Hecktown Church.  He and his wife Anna Maria, who died in 1803, had eight children.

Casper was born about 1724, married about 1746, and died in 1792 at Dryland, PA.  His will was probated 2 APR 1792. Wendy Van Roekel gives his birth years as approximately 1716.

Casper was a revolutionary patriot, having taken the oath of allegiance as a private on 26 MAY 1778.

Casper and Anna Maria’s daughter Mary Ann married Mathias John Walter, about 1790.  Mary Ann Walter died 15 MAY 1831 at Columbiana Co., OH.

Walter Mathias is also believed to be a veteran of the American Revolution, but no official record has yet been found regarding his service.  Mathias is buried at Bowman's cemetery, Columbiana Co., OH.  Born 12 FEB 1763, he died 23 AUG 1854.  He was the son of Henrich and Barbara Walder.

Among  the children of Mathia John and Mary Ann (Ritter) Walter was Jacob John Walter, our ancestor.
